Frida Kahlo & Her Xoloitzcuintli
Women & Their Dogs | Bas Sore, 2026

An intimate portrait of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo accompanied by a Xoloitzcuintli, the ancient Mexican hairless dog breed she loved.

Kahlo's life and art were deeply connected to animals, nature, and Mexican cultural identity. In this portrait, a slender Xolo stands beside her as she sits in profile, creating a striking composition of companionship and quiet strength.

Reimagined in the luminous whites and rich Prussian blues of the cyanotype process, the image becomes a meditation on attachment, identity, and the creatures that share our private lives.

Created by artist Bas Sore, this original handmade cyanotype transforms photographic portraiture into a tactile, one-of-a-kind work of art.
