Gertrude Stein & Alice Toklas with Poodle
Bas Sore | 2026

An original handmade cyanotype depicting Gertrude Stein and Alice Toklas with their poodle, transformed into a luminous study in Prussian blue.

Known for their enduring partnership and profound influence on modern literary culture, Stein and Toklas are shown here in an intimate, almost casual moment. The presence of the dog adds warmth and familiarity, grounding these iconic figures in the texture of everyday life.

Through the cyanotype process, the portrait becomes atmospheric and archival at once — a meditation on companionship, domesticity, queer history, and literary legacy.

Created by Bas Sore, this one-of-a-kind work is hand-exposed and developed on watercolor paper, then presented with a white mat in an ornate gold-tone frame.
