New York in Moncler

For several sweltering weeks in June and July, photographer Lucas Michael roamed New York City with an enormous Polaroid camera, capturing the people who make the city come alive after dark. From Harlem’s Shakespeare performances and Dyckman’s legendary basketball courts to underground dance floors in Bushwick, his portraits reveal a city of extraordinary characters, fleeting encounters, and unexpected intimacy.

Part photographic diary, part love letter to New York, this book preserves the restless, exuberant energy of a summer night, when strangers become protagonists and an entire city seems to be performing itself.

An interesting detail: Michael photographed his subjects with an oversized Polaroid Big Shot camera, capturing everyone from retired nurses to nightlife regulars, while interviews by Abby Schreiber gave the faces their own voices.
