THE STORY

I have never been entirely comfortable with deep water. But that has never stopped me from throwing myself into it.

In Jinja, southeastern Uganda, where the Nile flows out of Lake Victoria, I stepped off a platform 144 feet above the river.
I remember the freefall, my forehead touching the water's surface, the swift current beneath me, and then the sudden force of being pulled back into the air. For a few extraordinary seconds, I was suspended above the water, with no control over where I was going.

There is something terrifying and liberating about surrendering to forces greater than yourself.

For beneath the apparent stillness, everything is moving.

Deep blues surge across the canvas, surrounding a pale, almost weightless center reminiscent of the white mist hovering above the Nile's rushing current. The alcohol inks drift, separate and collide, while fine mica catches the light through the shifting layers of color.

UNANCHORED is about that fleeting space between fear and freedom—when there is nothing left to hold on to, and all you can do is trust where the current takes you.
