THE BLUE BETWEEN by Lukas Greyson
THE BLUE BETWEEN by Lukas Greyson
THE BLUE BETWEEN
An original 12 × 12 abstract painting by Lukas Greyson, created with alcohol ink and mica powder on canvas board and presented in an ornate gold frame.
THE STORY
I allow my energy and mood to dictate the initial direction of each painting. With ink, however, the medium often makes decisions alongside me. Like weather, it's always moving, shifting and never entirely controlled.
For THE BLUE BETWEEN, I sought to create two exposed openings of washed blues, with a splash of white leaking into a landscape of fractured gold and darkness.
Metallic gold breaks into delicate, almost fossil-like patterns, while the blue remains luminous beneath the textured surface. There is a tension between what is exposed and what is concealed, between the movement of the pigments and the composition I set out to create.
THE BLUE BETWEEN explores that space—the moments of color and light that remain visible through layers of darkness and gold.

MATERIAL + LIGHT
Created with alcohol ink and mica powder, the metallic elements of this painting shift with changing light and viewing angle.
The gold can appear subdued in softer light and become luminous in direct light, revealing subtle variations in color, texture and depth. The washed blues offer a striking contrast to the intricate gold surface.
Photographs show the work under different lighting conditions. The appearance of its metallic surface may vary depending on the surrounding environment and light.
