THE STORY
Wildlife in the Serengeti exists in a delicate balance between strength and vulnerability. During my time there, I found great peace observing and documenting lions at rest, often in deep sleep among the tall golden grass.
Their powerful presence softened by complete stillness, they seemed to disappear into the surrounding landscape, revealing a quieter side of life in the African wilderness.
Wild Rest began as an original documentary photograph. In 2026, I began exploring printing on metal, a material that seemed almost contradictory to nature itself. I printed the photograph on aluminum and transformed it with hand-applied alcohol ink. Layers of burnt amber, earthy brown and metallic gold partially conceal the lion, allowing him to emerge from the colors and textures of his environment.
The paradox of a lion's strength and softness finds an unexpected parallel in the sharpness of metal and the translucency of ink.
